Prediabetes is defined by having higher than normal blood sugar levels. This puts you at a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. Usually, prediabetes is asymptomatic.
Type 2 diabetes is high blood sugar levels due to your body not making enough of a hormone called insulin, or the insulin it makes not working properly — known as insulin resistance.
You can get a HbA1c blood test from your doctor, which tells you about your average blood sugar over the last 2-3 months. Readings of 42mmol/mol (6%) – 47mmol/mol (6.4%) indicate prediabetes. Readings over 48mmol/mol (6.5%) indicate type 2 diabetes.
HbA1c is your average blood glucose (sugar) levels for the last two to three months. HbA1c is what’s known as glycated haemoglobin. This is something that’s made when the glucose (sugar) in your body sticks to your red blood cells. Your body can’t use the sugar properly, so more of it sticks to your blood cells and builds up in your blood. Red blood cells are active for around 2-3 months, which is why the reading is taken quarterly.
In simple terms, by increasing movement, reducing sugar consumption, and improving body composition (increased muscle mass, and reduced body fat). By doing all of this it will help your body regain sensitivity to insulin, which in turn will regulate your blood sugar better.
Each week we will chat via video call to catch up on your progress, and importantly your general wellbeing to ensure you are moving in the right direction – towards a reduced blood sugar! In the case you have a question, or need help outside of our weekly calls, I will be available around the clock to support you as you need it.
At the beginning of the 16 weeks, I will ask what your preferred primary communication method is of: Direct message, e-mail, or phone call. At any given time you can get in touch with me through any method!
